OBJECTIVES

Specifically, the 16-ICIT will focus on how best practices in ISO portfolio of standards and TQM will affect quality trends in the new economy. TQM provides an overall concept that fosters continuous improvement in an organisation. The first objective of the conference is thus:

To provide a forum for the identification of contemporary development in the theories and practices of TQM and for the sharing of experience.

The number of ISO certified companies has seen a phenomenal rise.  The importance of the ISO series of standards, and its close relationship with TQM give rise to the second objective:

To establish the impact of ISO Standards implementation on TQM towards Excellence.

Time

Speaker

Topic

Objectives

T1

26/6/12

4 –5pm

Prof. Douglas Hensler

(Dean, W. Frank Barton School of Business, Wichita State University & former Deming Professor, USA)

Deming - Out of Crisis

Using Deming's System of Profound Knowledge (SPK) as a foundation, this workshop explores efforts since the publication of the SPK that extend Deming's ideas.  Using the work of many authors, the workshop presents these extensions in the context of comparing/contrasting markets that follow traditional neoclassical economics with markets that exist in the knowledge economy where intellectual capital dominates, and includes topics such as business ecology, value creation and “Out of Crisis” for economic recovery.

T2

26/6/12

4 –5pm

Dr. Alex Douglas  (Reader in Service Quality Management, Liverpool John Moore University, UK & Editor, TQM Journal)

Writing & Getting Published in Academic Journals

This hour long workshop, delivered by Dr Alex Douglas, the Editor of the TQM Journal, is aimed at increasing your chances of successfully publishing in academic journals. The workshop will “demystify” the publishing process and provide tips and insider knowledge to maximise your chances of getting published. It is suitable for post-graduate students, PhD students and academics and practitioners new to writing for publication no matter what their area of expertise or discipline.

T3

26/6/12

4 –5pm

Prof. Yoji Akao

(Founder of QFD, & Prof. Emeritus, Asahi U., Japan)

Combating Economic Crisis via QFD

This session will be a diagnosis on how Quality Function Deployment (QFD) can be applied to facilitate economic recovery and sustainable development through increased Customer Satisfaction from the QFD Founder’s perspective.

T4

27/6/12

4 –5pm

Prof. Ray Loveridge (Research Fellow, Professor Emeritus, Said Business School, Oxford University)

Economic Recovery & Organisation Development

In the context of the increasing globalisation of value chains the management of both manufacturing and service firms find themselves faced by contradictory pressures to reduce costs whilst at the same time engaging with customers and suppliers in product improvement and innovation. For advocates of lean production methods the answer is often to be found in a check-list approach to rationalising the present modes of value creation. Much can be gained by combining such approaches for economic recovery of organisations and nation at large.

T5

27/6/12

4 –5pm

Dr. Palmira Lopez-Fresno

(VP, Spanish Quality Association & Spanish Quality Award Chief Examiner)

EFQM’s Business Excellence out of Economic Crisis

As the President of the Service Quality Committee - Spanish Association for Quality (AEC), EFQM Assessor, Chief Examiner of the Spanish Quality Award, her research interest is in the areas of Integrated Management, Excellence, Business Process Management, Auditing and Customer Satisfaction.  Dr. Fresno will interpret the EFQM-2010 Criteria on Business Excellence out of Economic Crisis in particular.

T6

27/6/12

4 –5pm

Prof. Sam Ho

(Creator of the 5-S & Lean 5-S Auditing Checklist; Founder of the HK5SA; Quality Expert at SIRIM during 93-94)

The Lean 5-S Auditing against Economic Crisis

Over the last decade, Prof. Ho has developed a proprietary 50-point Lean 5-S checklists which are proven effective for cost reduction.  The objective is to achieve sales increase of 10% and cost reduction of 10%.  In the wake of “Economic Recovery” of the Greek Government, the tutorial will introduce participants on how to become a Lean 5-S Auditor for Cost Reduction whilst maintaining the Quality of products and services.
